The Kindergarten Program (back
to top)
FCA
operates a complete two-year kindergarten program. We begin with
the four year old program (K-4), and continue the following year
with a more advanced program for five year olds (K-5). While
we believe strongly in the value of our K-4 program, it is not
required that students attend K-4 first in order to enroll in
K-5 at Faith Christian.
A great kindergarten experience
for your child begins with a great teacher. Beginning with K-5,
FCA employs only teachers who hold at least a bachelor's degree
in early childhood education. In addition, our teachers support
our doctrinal and philosophical beliefs, both in the classroom
and in their daily lives. Faith Christian screens all teacher
applicants for illegal drug use, and each applicant must undergo
a comprehensive national background check.
Kindergarten at Faith Christian
Academy is a wonderful blend of learning and fun. It is the learning
that sets our kindergarten apart from ordinary play school or
daycare environments. While our kindergarten students have a
great deal of fun each day, they also develop the skills that
are necessary to truly excel in first grade.
Kindergarten students, for example,
develop intensive skills in phonics which prepares them to read.
Most of our students will be reading by the end of their K-4
year at FCA. By the end of K-5, standardized tests show many
FCA students reading on a first or even second grade level. Our
phonics approach to reading develops exceptional reading skills
while emphasizing the fun and enjoyment of reading.
Kindergarten
students also learn other valuable skills. Your child will learn
to count, write numbers, and recognize each number by sight.
Starting in K-4, students also learn language skills, using the
clock and calendar, writing, art, music, and Bible study. Five
year olds begin to study history and science as well.
Of course, fun is a critical
part of learning for kindergartners as well. That's why kindergarten
students enjoy a well-equipped playground, story time, show-and-tell,
singing, off-campus field trips, and many other exciting activities.
Kindergarten at FCA is held from
8 am to 12 pm Monday - Friday. Extended care is also available
for parents' convenience, beginning at 6am and lasting until
6pm each evening at an additional, reasonable cost.
Kindergarten at FCA is an affordable
alternative to daycare that provides much greater opportunities
for learning. We believe you'll find that enrolling your child
in kindergarten at FCA is one of the best investments you can
make for your child's future.
Elementary - Grades 1 through 5 (back
to top)
Faith Christian Academy provides
an environment that truly nourishes learning. Starting in K5,
all Faith Christian Academy teachers hold either bachelors or
masters degrees, and are certified in their fields. With low
student to teacher ratios, children receive the kind of individual
attention that fosters superior academic performance. In addition,
our facilities are virtually new - built originally in 1997 and
more than doubled with our expansions in 1999 and again in 2003.
We feature spacious, functional classrooms, a large playground,
a state of the art science lab, basketball gymnasium and computer
lab with high speed internet access.
Twenty-seven years of testing
with the Stanford Achievement Test demonstrates that students
in Christian schools perform far ahead of national averages.
With its emphasis on strong basic literacy, Faith Christian Academy
is committed to academic excellence. By avoiding highly experimental
methods, we are able to accentuate proven methods that produce
exceptional results. The success of our students in standardized
tests demonstrates the strength of the FCA program.
Faith
Christian Academy uses the proven A Beka curriculum. The A Beka
program has been a leader in Christian education for over 25
years, and is now used in over 10,000 schools worldwide. A Beka
publishes a full range of colorful, attractive textbooks and
teacher aids, all noted for advanced academic performance. While
not molded to any particular denomination, all A Beka materials
incorporate Christian and biblical principles. For more information
on this advanced curriculum, visit A Beka Online.
When looking for a great place
for your child to develop academically, we're confident you'll
find no better educational program than Faith Christian Academy.
Secondary - Grades 6 through 12 (back
to top)
Grades 6 -12 focus on a fairly
rigorous course of study aimed at equipping students for success
in college or in their chosen professions. Students benefit from
a relatively small, close knit student body, highly qualified
teachers and superior facilities, including state-of-the-art
science and computer labs.
Aside from our record of academic excellence, perhaps the best
reason to choose Faith Christian High School is the environment
and philosphical foundation. Every course, while academically
challenging, is taught from a Biblical perspective. All teachers
are Christians who accept our doctrinal and philosophy statements.
Students are taught to think from a Christian worldview. We believe
that they need to know how to make a living, but they must also
know how to make a LIFE. Our school environment is safe--without
violence, bad language, drugs and the like. Students treat each
other with respect and encourage and support one another.
We offer both a general diploma and an advanced diploma, which
is college preparatory. About ninety percent of our high school
students have chosen the advanced diploma track. Dual enrollment
opportunities are available through the University of Alabama
in Huntsville and Calhoun Community College, where our students
may earn high school and college credit in selected courses.
Our graduates' scores on the ACT and SAT average far above the
national averages. To date, nearly all of our graduates have
gone on to higher education and over eighty percent of our graduates
receive academic scholarships to excellent colleges and universities.
Several have received full four-year scholarships because of
their outstanding high school academic records. FCA graduates
are attending Auburn, UAH, Calhoun Community College, Troy University,
and others.
Our beautiful new gymnasium with
regulation basketball court provides excellent opportunites for
sports and physical education. We offer the usual extra-curricular
activities, including yearbook staff, junior-senior banquet,
senior trip, Beta Club, and National Honor Society. (See our
Activities page for more information).
Faith Christian Academy is selective in its admission to the
high school program, admitting those who are academically qualified
and demonstrate an eagerness to study in a structured Christian
environment. We do not admit students who have a history of serious
behavior or academic problems or who require special education.
Students in grades 7-12 sign a Christian lifestyle commitment.
Students are not required to attend any particular church or
denomination to be admitted.
