A few years ago,  Faith Christian Academy underwent several days of on-site inspections by a joint accreditation committee.  One of the recommendations made by that committee was that school form a written list of "core values" that it wishes to impart to students.  These are values that students will take with them throughout life.

These core values are to be taught upon the foundation of our doctrinal statement and philosophy standards.

This is an on-going project.  Space will not permit listing all of the core values that faculty, staff and the board embrace.  Here are a few of the values that we lifted up as essential values that must be imparted to students under our care:  (Remember, this is not a complete list):

  • Respect for the Bible as God's true written Word
  • Justification by grace through faith
  • Proper respect for all Godly authority
  • An honest work ethic
  • Sincere commitment to serve others; a servant's heart
  • Respect for the 3 earthly organizations that God has ordained:  the family, human government, and the local church
  • Instill a sincere desire that students seek God's will for their life
  • Patriotism and citizenship:  love and honor for our country
  • To cherish our free representative form of government
  • The value, sanctify and dignity of human life
  • Stewardship - to be good managers of what God has given us
  • Individual responsibility and accountability
  • Commitment to the free enterprise system and the private ownership of property as God-given and constitutional rights
  • Autonomy of parents to raise their families without unreasonable interference from the state (government)
  • Marriage between one man and one woman as described in the holy Scriptures
  • Responsibility to provide for one's own family to the best of one's ability
  • Strict interpretation of laws and the Constitution rather than judicial activism that permits courts to legislate far beyond the scope of the original law or the Constitution
  • A strong academic program that holds students and teachers accountable for excellence.  We believe that performance can be objectively measured.
  • Education that is traditional rather than "progressive" in nature; emphasis upon academic excellence with moral and spiritual training based on the Bible as the final authority

Parents should understand that these values can be accomplished only in a private school or home school environment, with the support of the parents.  Government run schools which have outlawed the Bible, prayer, and Christian values, and which increasingly come under control of liberal and powerful teacher unions (the NEA, for example) cannot be relied upon to pass these core values along to the next generation.  Truly, we have "sown to the wind and reaped the whirlwind."

As Dr. Tim LaHaye and others have warned for so long, we have now entered the so-called "Post Christian era," and into a battle for the mind and soul of America.  That battle is being waged in the classrooms of our nation.  As the classroom goes today, so goes the moral and spiritual tide of our country tomorrow. This generation bears a great responsibility for the next generation.

Remember, a child typically spends 3 hours a week in church, but he spends 35 hours a week in school!  As one humanist writer asked, "What can the theistic Sunday Schools do in one hour a week to stem the tide of teachings in the humanist school five days a week?"

The home, the church, the school.....working together....is vital.

"....a threefold cord is not quickly broken."  (Ecc. 4:12)
